Journalist kicked out of William Ruto’s meeting ‘tokeni hapa’

On Monday, June 20, the United Democratic Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto toured his Rift Valley turf to consolidate his August 9, 2022, State House bid.

Ruto who was accompanied by his 2022 presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua, Nakuru senator Susan Kihika among other leaders was in Nakuru where he held a political meeting with the people of Njoro and Molo where journalists were also present.

While wondering who had invited them, the 2022 presidential election front runner William Ruto accused the journalists of peddling propaganda.

The Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate immediately ordered the journalists who were in attendance to leave the Njoro farm where the meeting was being held to allow them to discuss what he termed as ‘important issues.’

“Why do we have these media houses here? Can you people leave because we want to discuss important issues? I don’t want them here. Allow us space, you peddle a lot of propaganda,” Ruto ordered.

This saw journalists spend more than three hours waiting for the deputy president to brief them on the ‘important issues’ they were discussing.

Prior to their kick-out, the presidential candidate had recalled how he shelved his State House ambitions in fovour of his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta whom they have bitterly fallen out with

It is understood that this is not the first time the second in command is kicking journalists out of his meeting.

In March 2022, members of the press were kicked out of Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Delegates Convention.

“And the media people, the ones we have here all the media houses, please let us stay here to cover William Ruto when we are done with prayers. But for now, I will ask you to please give us a little space to do the private affairs of the delegates,” MC Jessy said.
