Kiambu Woman Rep dismisses Raila Odinga’s meeting with Mt Kenya tycoons

by Enock Ndayala

Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba who is also a staunch supporter of Deputy President William Ruto has said a section of Mt Kenya tycoons who met ODM leader Raila Odinga does not represent the region’s voters.

On Tuesday, September 28, Mt Kenya region tycoons under the Mt Kenya Foundation umbrella held a consultative meeting at a Nairobi Hotel where they largely endorsed Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

But Kiambu Woman Rep in a Facebook post on Wednesday, September 29, said the Mt Kenya Foundation does not represent the views of the people in the region.

Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba has dismissed ODM leader Raila Odinga’s meeting with Mt Kenya tycoons.

“Dear Mt Kenya Foundation. You have finally declared it’s Raila for president. Unfortunately, you are apolitical hence; you do not represent the views of the people from the Mt Kenya region,” Wa Muchomba said.

While citing the recent demolitions in Githurai and Kahawa West as well as the ongoing insecurity in some parts of Laikipia County, the vocal legislator accused the Mt Kenya tycoons of dodging issues that are of great concern to the region.

“Did you speak for the small traders in Githurai and Kahawa West when they lost lives and properties to demolishers? Did you speak when our people in Laikipia were sleeping in the cold and their animals were stolen by rustlers?  So you only speak when brokering power?” she posed.

She further criticized the group for injecting their billions to make someone a president while hundreds of thousands of Kenyans continue to die due to lack of basic needs including food and clothes.

“You can afford to spend over KSh 2 million to plan a billionaire’s club forum to promise someone ‘our’ votes yet you could not send a truck of foods and clothes to our Laikipia Kinsmen as they died from skirmishes,” she said.

The Mount Kenya Foundation hailed Odinga’s weekend tour of the region as a sign of better political fortunes, saying that he would cement President Kenyatta’s legacy as well as ensure stability and continuity.

“We want somebody who will take over and there will be continuity in the kind of development projects that have been started. Secondly, somebody who will not disturb our businesses and thirdly somebody who we can sit with and agree on how to go forward,” said Titus Ibui, Mt Kenya Foundation Vice Chairman.
