Laikipia Woman rep terms Raila ‘most expensive political project in Kenya

Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru has termed ODM leader Raila Odinga as the most expensive political project in Kenyan history.

Speaking during a Kenya Kwanza rally in Nyeri, Waruguru said since the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former prime minister in March 2018, all the Jubilee government’s big four agenda have been stalled.

Waruguru who recently ditched the ruling outfit for Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA further took a swipe at the head of state saying that he is using government resources meant to uplift the lives of Kenyans to market Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“Mzee wa kitendawili (Raila Odinga) has become the most expensive project that we have experienced in the Republic of Kenya,” Waruguru said.

“Raila ndege zake anapewa na serikali, mikutano za Raila zinafadhiliwa na serikali (Raila’s flights are funded by the government, Raila’s meetings are sponsored by the government),” she said.

While warning Uhuru that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region will not buy into his project ahead of the August 9 General Election, Waruguru told the first in command that they will stick with his estranged deputy to the end.

“Sisi tulimsaidia mara ya kwanza nay a pili kwa debe na kwa sababu yeye ni mtu wa kula haramuamemruka William Ruto na ametuletea ile ile jamaa alijiapisha kule Uhuru park, sisi tunamwambia atembee safari ya mchawi pekee yake,”

Loosely translated to “We helped him the first and second time at the ballot and because he is an illegal eater he has shortchanged William Ruto and he has brought us person who swore himself as the people’s president Uhuru park, we are telling him to walk that journey alone,” Waruguru said.

Her remarks come barely days after Ruto sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration is so corrupt.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, March 3, at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in the US, Ruto said that Uhuru’s government has lost nearly a KSh 1 trillion to corruption.

“The other issue is budgeted corruption. Today you have close to KSh 100 billion budgeted every year that has no oversight and in opaque institutions. That amount has grown between four and fivefold in the last ten years,” Ruto said.
