ODM leader Raila Odinga will have to wait for more than two weeks for the official launch of his presidential vehicle dubbed Azimio la Umoja.

Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Friday, February 25, during ODM’s National Delegates Convention (NDC), Suna East MP Junet Mohammed said the Orange party had formally ratified the decision to join Azimio la Umoja Movement.

He however said the launch of Raila Odinga’s presidential vehicle which was supposed to be signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party and ODM, the anchor parties of the fledgling coalition will not be officially launched tomorrow as had been planned due to undisclosed reasons.

“Tomorrow in the NDC of Jubilee and ODM we were supposed to sign membership but it has been agreed that we are going to have a serious launch of the Azimio Coalition in two weeks’ time,” Junet said.

Junet, who is the ODM Director of Elections further revealed that Raila Odinga’s official vehicle for the August 9, presidential polls, is supported by over 10 political parties and that the opposition leader will vie for the top seat on its ticket.

ODM’s top decision-making organ – National Governing Convention further cleared its party leader Raila Odinga as the sole presidential candidate in the August polls.

This comes even as the ODM deputy party leaders Wycliffe Oparanya and Hasaan Joho officially shelved their presidential ambitions in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner Raila Odinga.

“I also wanted to be president but having looked at the climate, and Raila being more experienced than I am, I am withdrawing my bid today in support of Raila,

“I do hereby propose that Raila be our next candidate in the August elections. We are giving him all the powers to go out there and negotiate with other leaders to ensure he becomes the 5th president,” Oparanya said.
