Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has fronted himself to be a presidential running mate for Raila Odinga in the 2022 General Election.

According to the County boss, he has no plans of retiring from active politics after his second term comes to an end in 2022.

The Mombasa Governor who shelved his presidential ambitions for his party leader Raila Odinga said he does not mind being his deputy.

“I want to tell Raila (Odinga)… I wanted it(presidency), but when Baba(Raila Odinga) says he wants it, as a child I step back. Even if I become a deputy president it is enough, if we decide I become the running mate I am qualified.,” he said.

Joho added that he has foreseen Raila Odinga taking over as the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.

The Mombasa Governor dropped his presidential bid in favour of Raila Odinga in September after holding talks with the ODM boss.

“I am ready to shelve my presidential ambition. I do not fear doing that. I strongly believe that our only path, as Coastal people, to State House is through Raila Odinga,” Ali Hassan Joho said.

While announcing his decision to drop out of the presidential race, Joho appealed to Raila to consider including coastal leaders in his government.

“ I am, however, urging Odinga to bring on board Coastal leaders. We do not want to continue being distant observers or followers, but participants in governance at the national level,” he said.

Reports indicated that Joho was promised a position in Raila Odinga’s government, prompting him to drop out of the Presidential race.

Joho’s aim at the deputy presidency comes after his declaration that Raila Odinga might be a one-term president.

“I want (Baba) Raila Odinga to win in the 2022 General Election so that by 2027 he can let me go. “If the other one (Deputy President William Ruto) wins, we (people from Coast of Kenya) will never see the presidency again,” Joho said suggesting that Raila, 76, will be a one-term president.
