Mutahi Ngunyi asks President Ruto to keep minister in suspended terror

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki yesterday declared Monday, November 13, a public holiday.

Kenya’s President William Ruto on Tuesday, August 1, signed performance contracts for several government officials at State House, Nairobi.

It was expected that every Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretaries, and other senior government officials would attend the event.

Surprisingly, several CSs, PS, and other senior government officials did not attend after they were locked out of the event for coming in late.

Among those who were locked out for being late are Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and his Trade counterpart Moses Kuria.

The president expressed his resentment at senior CS who failed to keep time and demanded that they present a written explanation on why they were late.

However, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi advised the Head of State not to fear firing his cabinet members.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 1, Ngunyi opined that the president ought to be unpredictable and keep his cabinet on the toss.

He reminded Ruto to be like Kenya’s longest-serving Head of State late President Daniel Arap Moi who once fired his Head of Public Service Professor Philip Mbithi for no good reason.

“Dear Ruto: Keep your ministers in suspended TERROR. Be UNPREDICTABLE. You should occasionally FIRE a minister or PS for “… no good EARTHLY reason”.  Prof Mbithi was FIRED by Moi on Radio after they had spent a whole evening RESHUFFLING the cabinet. There was no reason. Just TERROR,” he said.

Speaking during the contract signing event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua warned CSs and PSs over lateness saying that there cannot be any justification for that.

”You can’t arrive at an event when the President is already seated. Why would you come late? How do you explain that? Who did you go to see and yet today was the most important day for you to sign contracts?” Gachagua said.
