President Uhuru’s party warns MPs planning to join Ruto team

Since William Ruto was declared the fifth President-elect on Monday, August 15, several elected politicians have been shifting their allegiance to Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Among those who have promised to work with the president-elect include independents and politicians allied to UDA, a party affiliated with Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party.

UD has two senators, two governors and more than 10 Members of Parliament elected in the Tuesday, August 9, General Election.

As such, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party on Friday asked its members to stay put and stop shifting allegiance to other parties.

Through the party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, the outfit said those who will cross the camp risk losing their elected seats.

“Any member of the Jubilee Party exhibiting wayward behavior and planning to switch from one party to another should know that they risk losing their seats,” Kioni said.

Speaking after meeting the party’s elected leaders in Nakuru County, Kioni, said those migrating from one party to another are preparing enough grounds for any voter to challenge their stay in office.

“Remember we had a pre-election coalition agreement which we would want to remain faithful to for the next five years,” he added.

Kioni, who failed to defend his Ndaragua parliamentary seat in the just-ended General election, further urged independent leaders not to take sides saying they too risk losing their seats.

His comments come just days after president-elect William Ruto said that 10 out of the 12 MPs who were elected on the independent tickets were on their way to Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Addressing the elected leaders’ caucus of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, Ruto said the 10 will be working with the Kenya Kwanza leaders to deliver development to the people of Kenya.

“Out of 12 elected independent Members of Parliament, 10 have joined our team,” Ruto said.
