Raila: Kenyans would be getting KSh 6k monthly if we would have won elections

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has castigated the Kenya Kwanza government for doing little to bring down the cost of living.

Speaking in Kitui on Tuesday, February 21, Odinga said it was so devastating that the cost of living was still beyond reach for the majority of Kenyans more than six months since the new administration took over.

The opposition leader faulted President William Ruto for making empty promises during the 2022 election campaign.

“The cost of living is very high six months after the elections yet the Kenya Kwanza government made a lot of empty promises to Kenyans,” Raila said.

Raila who unsuccessfully vied for the country’s top seat on an Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party said the cost of living would now be affordable if he would have won the polls.

He said poor Kenyans would now be enjoying KSh 6,000 every month had the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared him president.

This Raila said would help unemployed Kenyans to cope with the tough economic times by helping them put something on their table.

“We as Azimio had promised to give KSh 6k to poor Kenyans because we knew where the money would come from,” Raila said.

IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati declared William Rutp president-elect after he garnered 7.1 million votes against Raila’s 6.9 million votes.

Raila unsuccessfully contested the presidential results declared by IEBC at the Supreme Court which flagged his petition as ‘hot air’.

Yesterday, former vice president Musalia Mudavadi said the previous government was to blame for the current high cost of living.

“Yes our economy is in a pathetic situation. We can’t blame the Kenya kwanza government for that. We haven’t submitted any budget to parliament,

“The outgoing government is the one to be blamed. They have left behind ballooning debts that will take us years to pay,” Mudavadi said.
