Kiambaa MP-elect John Njuguna Wanjiku was not a household name in Kenya until his recent moves in the political scene.
Known to many Kiambaa residents as Ka-Wanjiku, John Njuguna has been actively but silently involved in politics during his youthful days, but behind the scenes.
But questions have emerged on whether the Kiambaa MP-elect John Njuguna was able to fund his campaign wholly or received some outside support?
In an interview with NTV, the newly elected legislator neither denied nor confirmed that Deputy President William Ruto funded his campaigns in the Kiambaa by-elections.
He however boasted of being a renowned business person in Kiambaa Constituency, which could suggest he also spent his own money and he is no one’s political project.
“I have been a business person, I was once employed by Barclays bank. I was once a Mutura seller, looking for money to pay school fees. I then started importing spare parts, then cars.. and the rest is a history,” John njuguna revealed.
The Kiambaa MP-elect started off his political journey as a youth leader.
“I was just behind the tent. I was among the people who participated in the no campaign (against the 2010 change in the constitution)
” I joined Jubilee campaigns in 2017, I was the Jubilee youth chair in Kiambu County. From there, I started the hustler nation politics (associated with William Ruto) and became actively involved in their operations,” said the youthful politician.
However, John Njuguna aka Ka-Wanjiku has also had his fair share of political tribulations.
In February 2021, John Njuguna and his competitor Kariri Njama organized DP Ruto’s visit to the Kiambaa constituency.
This resulted in a conflict between the duo and the late Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange who was a staunch supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“When the late MP heard that Ruto is coming to Banana, he was disturbed. I was arrested by police officers in Ruaka, they abducted me, took me in rounds, and dumped me at burnt forest. They undressed me, took away my belongings, and tied me in the forest. I managed to get out at 2.00 AM and was given clothes by mechanics, “ Kiambaa MP-elect recalled.
Now, Njuguna is also facing off his one-time ally Kariri Njama who intends to protest the results of the Kiambaa polls.
