Uasin Gishu Woman Rep on why Jubilee won’t expel defectors

Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei has termed as ‘inconsequential’ Jubilee Party’s planned move to expel defectors from the party.

This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta-led party said it will hold the Jubilee National Delegates Conference (NDC) where the party is expected to expel defectors including Deputy President William Ruto.

But in an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, November 9, Shollei said the ruling party cannot dare kick out party rebels because the party will lose almost all the seats it currently occupies.

“The only reason they cannot send us back to the ballot is that each and every one of those expelled members would be reelected,” Gladys Shollei said.

The former Judiciary Registrar boss said a majority of members of the Jubilee party have shifted to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaving Jubilee a shell of its former self.

Shollei dared the Jubilee party leadership to kick out all members perceived to be rebels including herself.

“Maybe the only thing left is to threaten the rest of us and say they are going to remove us as members of Jubilee so that we can go for by-elections and we are saying bring it on, my people will reelect me anytime,” Shollei added.

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju announced that Jubilee delegates are expected to converge at Kasarani Stadium later this month where President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to give direction on the future of the party.

“Take notice that pursuant to Article 7.1.1 and 7.1:2 or the Jubilee Party Constitution, a meeting of the National Delegates Convention shall be convened at 10 am on the November 30 at Kasarani.”

Jubilee seeks to revoke Ruto’s membership and consequently throw him out as the deputy party leader.

It is suspected that there are plans to invite ODM leader Raila Odinga to the event where the Head of State is said to be planning to use the NDC to seek ratification to enter into a coalition with the opposition party ahead of his succession contest in 2022.
