Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula has dismissed reports that he was about to defect to Azimio la Umoja led by Raila Odinga

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula has dismissed reports that he is about to dump William Ruto and link up with former allies Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka in Azimio la Umoja led by Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Since Thursday, March 24 there were speculations on social media platforms that the Kenya Kwanza co-principal was rejoining Raila.

The reports spread even faster the next day as bloggers picked it up, with screenshots of an alleged meeting between the two doing the rounds in WhatsApp groups on Friday, March 25.

But in a statement on his Twitter account, the Ford Kenya party leader dismissed claims that he was meeting with his ODM party counterpart to strike a deal that would see him ditch Deputy President William Ruto’s-led Kenya Kwanza faction for Azimio la Umoja.

The former NASA principal stated that he was still firmly in Kenya Kwanza and was holding talks with some of his party members at the headquarters.

“I have had a busy moment at Ford Kenya party Headquarters receiving, advising, and encouraging our candidates in preparation for party primaries. Kenya Kwanza is the valid dream and hope for Kenya under the leadership of Ruto and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi,” Wetang’ula stated.

The Ford Kenya leader further clarified that a photo of him and Raila that was circulating on social media was taken in 2018.

The speculations come barely a day after Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, stated that he would hold discussions with Wetangula to entice him into joining the Raila-led faction.

“I tell you; I miss Wetangula because I have suffered and struggled with him. I pray every day and night for Wetangula to leave Kenya Kwanza and join Azimio la Umoja,” Kalonzo stated.

In the recent past Wetang’ula ruled out working with ODM leader Raila Odinga saying he cannot be trusted.

“He betrayed me after I had stood with him for all those years. I can’t support him again, even if he sends as many people as he can to convince me, he can’t win my support again.” Wetangu’la said in January.
