Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has promised to convince Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula to join Azimio la Umoja brigade steered by Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Addressing journalists at the Bomas of Kenya after attending the UPIA party’s National Delegates Conference on Wednesday, March 23, the former vice president wished he would be working with Wetang’ula under the Azimio la Umoja.

“Wetang’ula ni ndugu yangu na ni rafiki yangu. Ingekuwa furaha sana kama angejiunga nami (Wetang’ula is my brother and my friend. It would be great if he could join me)” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader further revealed that the Ford Kenya leader remains his close friend despite his recent move to join Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Pressed to set the record straight on whether Wetang’ula has been secretly holding talks to ditch Ruto, Kalonzo said that his friendship with Wetang’ula is still strong even if they are in different political camps.

“Tumzunguka na yeye, tumekula teargas na yeye pamoja kuanzia enzi za Cord na Nasa (We went around with him, we survived teargas with him together from the days of Cord and Nasa)” he said.

Kalonzo further revealed that his conversations with Wetangula in the recent past have been on friendly matters adding that when they meet again, he will try to convince him to ditch Ruto for Raila.

“So the truth is we have not formally engaged but if we do, it will be a very good thing,” he added.

Kalonzo and Wetangula started working together prior to the 2013 General Election under the then Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord).

They again worked together in the last General Election under the National Super Alliance (Nasa) which brought together Raila’s ODM, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC, and former Bomet Gover Isaac Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani.

However, after the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kalonzo, Wetangula, and Mudavadi ditched NASA and formed One Kenya Alliance bringing other parties onboard.
