ANC party on why OKA will not conduct primaries in search of presidential flag bearer

by Enock Ndayala

Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party has ruled out the possibilities of conducting a party primary in search of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) flag bearer in the 2022 presidential elections.

ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula said the OKA which brings together Gideon Moi (KANU), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) shall arrive at the right flag bearer for the presidential candidate through mutual consensus.

“We believe in consensus, and we shall arrive at the right candidate who is best suited to lead the race,” Savula said.

Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party has ruled out the possibilities of conducting party nominations in search of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) flag bearer in the 2022 presidential elections.

Savula who is also the Lugari MP revealed this at a time Musalia Mudavadi and his counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka seem to have locked horns over who should be the coalition’s flag bearer ahead of the 2022 presidential race.

With barely 10 months to the polls, the duo separately insists that they have the mettle, steel, and political muscle to outshine other presidential aspirants, a move that could soon tear apart the blossoming coalition.

But speaking in Kiharu, Murang’a County over the weekend, Savula downplayed claims that the OKA alliance is divided and that the principals are each pulling to their side to pursue their race to the statehouse.

While drumming up support for his party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Savula said the 2013 presidential candidate is best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We want someone who will revive the economy of the country and bring the much-desired change in leadership, and that is none other than our party leader,” Savula added.

Last week, Mudavadi urged the Western region to come out in large numbers and register as voters adding that that was the only thing that will guarantee him to be an OKA flag bearer.

Mudavadi said the formulae to pick the OKA presidential flag bearer will depend on the number of voters each of the four principals- Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetangula- would have registered in their respective strongholds.

“The formula of picking a candidate in One Kenya Alliance (OKA) is in numbers. If you want me to have a say in the coalition, I must have the numbers,” Mudavadi said.
