Kakamega businesman says Khalwale paid KSh 10 million to drop gubernatorial ambition

Renowned Kakamega billionaire and business mogul Cleophas Shimanyula famously known as Toto has said that former senator Boni Khalwale was paid KSh 10 million to drop his gubernatorial ambitions.

On Wednesday, March 23, the career gynecologist-turned-politician dropped his Kakamega gubernatorial bid in favor of Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala.

In an interview with Ruto promised Khalwale KSh 10 million but he was given a down payment of KSh 3 million.

“Na tena nikwambie ukweli hata Khalwale kupoteza hii kiti, alipatiwa mlungula wa KSh 3 million na akashawishiwa,” Shimanyula said.

Loosely translated to: “And let me tell you the truth… He (Boni Khalwale) was offered a KSh 3 million ticket and was persuaded to let Malala run for the Kakamega County governorship in the next General Election.”

Both Khlwale and Malala are allied to Kenya Kwanza where William Ruto is the defacto leader.

Shimanyula argued that the Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer persuaded Khalwale to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions in favor of Malala so that he does not push for his party leader Musalia Mudavadi to be picked as William Ruto’s presidential running mate.

“Cleophas aliambia Ruto kwamba ukinikazania nipate hii, mimi sitaongea mambo ya Musalia Mudavadi kuwa mgombea mwenza wako tena. Na umemsikia akiongealea mambo ya Mudavadi tena tangu apewe kweli?”

“Cleophas told Ruto that if you help me to get this, I will not talk about Musalia Mudavadi as your running mate again. And by the way, have you heard him talk about Mudavadi again since he was given the mandate to fly the Kenya Kwanza gubernatorial flag?” Shimanyula posed.

Earlier this month, Malala had demanded that ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi be named the running mate to Deputy President William Ruto for the coming August General Election but has since gone silent on the matter since he met the deputy president at his official Karen residence where the deal was struck.
