by Enock Ndayala

A section of chburch leaders has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta against accusing them of receiving offerings from proceeds of corruption.

This comes less than two weeks after the head of state critiqued church leaders for receiving alleged looted money from Deputy President William Ruto’s money and donations.

But speaking during a forum that brought together clergy from different parts of the North Rift region, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) said they could not tell whether offering from politicians is clean or not.

“Viongozi wa makanisa kama wachungaji hatuna kipimo cha kupima sadaka haramu na sadaka halali (church leaders as pastors do not have a standard for measuring legitimate offerings and that from proceeds of corruption)” the clergy said.

The NCCK further expressed concerns over the fallout between the president and the second in command saying it could easily raise tension in the country especially as we head into the August 9, General Election.

“We are deeply concerned the way the fallout between the president and his deputy is causing tension among the communities,” they said in a statement on Wednesday, March 2.

The men and women of the clothe further warned the politicians against making provocative remarks ahead of the August 9, General Election.

“Kama viongozi kitu muhimu sana ni kuchunga yale maneno tunayotamka wanaotafta kura ndipo tusilete hate speech (As leaders the most important thing is to take care of the words we utter as we seek for votes so that we do not breed hate speech),” they added.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 23, during the famous Sagana III meeting, the head of state faulted some religious leaders for being used to mislead the public.

“Church leaders should stop lying to our people. Don’t lie to our people because you’ve been given stolen money from the public coffers. Such preachers will go to hell,” President Uhuru said.
