Governor Waiguru tells off Lee Kinyanjui over warning to presidential aspirants

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has taken a swipe at her Nakuru county counterpart Lee Kinyanjui over a warning he sent to Presidential aspirants about Mt Kenya voters.

In a social media statement on Tuesday, December 7, Waiguru dismissed Kinyanjui’s warning to Presidential aspirants not to invest so much in the Mt Kenya region.

Waiguru argued that Mt Kenya people will vote for a leader who has their interest at heart, and not based on handouts as Lee Kinyanjui puts it.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has silenced her Nakuru counterpart Lee Kinyanjui over a warning he sent to Presidential aspirants.

“While I agree that Mt Kenya wants a leader who will represent their interests- it’s definitely not in the traditional sense. Like many Kenyans, their businesses are currently suffering, their crops are not fetching the best prices, they are in insurmountable debt and their hard labor is not yielding much,

“This time, they will vote with both their heads and hearts; A message they understand and a messenger they feel! William Samoei Ruto,” Waiguru wrote while drumming up support for Deputy President.

Her post was a response to another by Lee Kinyanjui on Monday, December 6, where he raised concerns over the high-pitched political activities in Mt Kenya.

“The recent upsurge in political activities witnessed in the Mt. Kenya region is baffling.

Indeed, you would be forgiven for thinking other parts of the country will not be voting in the coming elections,” Kinyanjui stated.

While indirectly hitting at William Ruto’s camp, the Governor said they will regret investing in the region since residents will vote based on logic and not whom they love.

“All we ask is caution while pursuing this block. Do not invest too much because you are likely to regret it.

From the last five elections since multiparty, the region has voted with its head, not the heart. Interests and only interests will reign supreme,” he said.

He further questions whether the politicians camping in the region has the people’s interests at heart.

“Did you support them when they wanted one man one shilling one vote? Did you support them when they sought equality of the vote? Did you support their kin while in office? What is your stand on free enterprise and the fight against corruption?

The candidate that affirms the above takes the prize.  These are the real issues that will define choices. Not the number of harambees, roadside shows or token to individuals. History has a strange way of repeating itself,” Kinyanjui wrote in a social media post.
