Musalia Mudavadi responds to suggestions he wants Anne Waiguru as running mate

The Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has refuted claims that the party is courting Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to be his potential running mate in the 2022 presidential race.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday, September 21, Mudavadi, one of the principals of the One Kenya Alliance which houses Kalonzo Musuyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya), and Gideon Moi (KANU) said ANC is not courting any specific person to be his running mate.

“We are not courting any specific person for the running mate. We are looking at it openly and that was why (Ayub) Savula-ANC deputy party leader- in his peak of excitement made those comments,

“I asked him and he said they were personal statements although he may have made some reference to the ANC. No such commitment has been made,” Mudavadi said.

In what appeared to be an indirect dig at Waiguru, Mudavadi said Kirinyaga governor lacks integrity, a key factor every running mate must-have.

“I will be looking for integrity. I will be looking for an individual, male or female whom I can actually work with. You cannot have a situation where the president and his deputy are working at crossroads,” he added.

The former vice president was responding to remarks by his ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula, who had claimed that the party was courting governor Waiguru to be one of their Kingpins from the Mt Kenya region.

“As ANC, we are going to stand in solidarity with her and we are courting her to be one of our political kingpins in Central Kenya,” Savula told journalists outside the anti-corruption headquarters after Waiguru had been grilled by sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
