Two weeks ago, Kenya’s President William Ruto nominated a list of 22 leaders for consideration for the Cabinet Secretary position including ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.

The former vice president was nominated for the Prime Cabinet Secretary position in the Kenya Kwanza government as per his pre-election deal with the Head of State.

As such, Mudavadi on Monday, October 17, appeared before the committee of the National Assembly tasked with vetting the Kenya Kwanza Cabinet Secretaries nominees.

He was the first to face the vetting panel where he disclosed his wet worth.

While responding to a question from the National assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, the veteran politician disclosed that he is worth KSh 4 billion.

“If I take my investments in shares in some companies and also the properties that I own, I will put my net worth at KSh 4 billion,” Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi, who unsuccessfully vied for the country’s presidency in the 2013 elections, stated that his sources of income are majorly from rental, and dividends where he has the shares and interests and other expenses that come from his farm.

If approved, the former deputy Prime Minister will be the senior most official in the Kenya Kwanza government after the President, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after having been in political cold for more than 10 years.

He will be tasked with assisting the President and the Deputy President in the coordination and supervision of Government Ministries and State Departments.

Under Executive Order No.1 of 2022, Mudavadi’s other roles will be liaising with the Interior Ministry and National Administration in overseeing the implementation of all National Government projects.

He will also be tasked with coordinating the National Government legislative agenda across all ministries and state departments for transmission to coalition leaders in Parliament.
