Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth has overtaken Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua to become the number one option to deputize ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 polls.

According to a recent opinion poll released by Mizani Africa on Friday, December 17, Kenneth emerged the most preferred Raila Odinga’s number one slot for the running mate position with 41.7 percent approval ratings.

Karua who had in October ranked the best politician from Mt Kenya region to deputize any of the many presidential aspirants in the 2022 General Election came second with a paltry 28.4 percent.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi emerged third and fourth with 17.6 and 6.8 percent respectively.

Business mogul Agnes Kagure who had in October emerged the second most preferred deputy presidential candidate in the 2022 General Election could not make it to the top five this time around.

As the clock ticks towards the 2022 elections, presidential front runners Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto are both leaning towards the mountain for their running mates.

The huge voting bloc will not be fielding a serious presidential candidate and due to their numbers, they are hoping to get the number two position as the region is considered the biggest swing vote area that will determine who becomes Kenya’s 5th president after August 2022.

Last week, President Uhuru’s handshake partner confirmed that he will be giving a fifth stab at the presidency in the 2022 General Election.

In November 2021, the Jubilee party-endorsed Peter Kenneth to be Raila Odinga’s 2022 running mate.

Led by Peter Cheruiyot, the Secretary-General of the Jubilee party Nakuru branch, the leaders proposed the former presidential aspirant saying he is a strong contender for the running mate.

“He is a very sharp guy, relaxed, composed, and reserved with politics that rightfully endear him to any political formation particularly to deputize Raila Odinga,” he said.
