President William Ruto is set to embark on a 5-day intense development tour of the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.

The five-day tour will begin on Saturday, August 5, with a road trip from Nairobi, marked by stop-overs in Githurai and Kenol.

According to President’s schedule released by the presidential communication department on Thursday, August 3, the Head of State will then proceed to Kirinyaga County where he is expected to open a water project.

He will then set off to Karatin Town, the home of his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua where he is expected to commission the Marua-State Lodge Road that will ease the movement of goods and services and spur growth in the area.

On Sunday, August 6, the Head of State will be at the State Lodge Sagana for an interdenominational prayer service.

The President’s convoys will later on Monday, August 7, head to Nyeri town where he is expected to open a bus park to ease traffic congestion and improve transportation in the busy town.

In the evening, the President will return to the State Lodge where he is scheduled to host Mt Kenya governors and senior regional leaders for dinner.

A brief from the State House said that the five-day long tour will be about agriculture, infrastructure, health, and education.

However, the tour comes at a time when opposition leader Raila Odinga is facing a revolt from a section of Mt Kenya leaders who endorsed his 2022 presidential bid.

This was after the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader left out all the Mt Kenya leaders in the coalition’s negotiating team that is expected to face that of Kenya Kwanza.

On Thursday, August 3, Narc Kenya Party leader and Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential running mate held a private meeting with Azimio leaders from the Mt Kenya region.
