Ruto ally asks president Uhuru to stop pushing Kalonzo to support Raila

by Enock Ndayala

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has sharply criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta for compelling Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

In an interview with KTN News on Tuesday, February 22, Cheruiyot, a staunch supporter of Deputy President William Ruto urged the head of state to give the One Kenya Alliance co-principal a humble time to make up his mind.

“Why are Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the main campaign machine in this particular election cycle forcing Kalonzo Musyoka into submission… Can you give the good gentleman time to make up his mind,” Cheruiyot said.

Cheruiyot further accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner of using Ukambani governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Alfred Mutua (Machakos), and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) to blackmail Kalonzo.

He said Uhuru is secretly funding political rallies by the trio to demean the Wiper leader that he does not have the political power he had in the previous elections.

“Why are these governors blackmailing Kalonzo Musyoka? When you see the movement of these three governors it is meant to sort of threatening Kalonzo Musyoka.

“Stop using these governors to try and send fillers and say you know we have the ability. Even when you see the kind of rallies they are mobilizing you can see that this is state resources planned by the government of Kenya to try and beat Kalonzo into submission,” he said.

His sentiments come barely a day after the Wiper leader held a meeting with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga aimed at reuniting the two current political foes ahead of the August 9, General Election.

“The two leaders discussed the possibility of them joining hands to work together in the coming General Election because they have one common enemy who is Deputy President William Ruto. Of course, the talks have been ongoing and this one was just one of the processes.”
