In a statement, Jalang’o, who is one of the rebel ODM lawmakers sarcastically wondered if Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane would sleep at Kakamega Golf if his team was to play in the Western Kenya town.

“The fans? Kakamega asking to host AFCON, wapi? Mane atalala Kakamega Golf ama ValuValu?” Jalang’o posed.

He further expressed concerns about Kisumu, Kakamega, and Eldoret holding Afcon saying that the cities have fewer facilities than the capital city.

“Forget about Eldoret, Kisumu, or Kakamega hosting AFCON, Is Nairobi even ready? If we host the opening ceremony do you know we will need 32 top hotels to host the participating nations?” Jalang’o said.

However, Amisi in a statement said the Western region had enough hotel facilities to host Afcon in 2027.

Amisi, who was elected on an ODM party ticket, insisted that the region must host some Afcon matches adding that there were enough resources to build requisite accommodation facilities of international standards.

“Those questioning whether Western has enough hotel facilities to host Afcon 2027, please note we are hosting soccer games, not badminton,

“Even if it were, we have the capacity to build requisite accommodation facilities of international standards. We must host it,” the lawmaker said.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania jointly won the bid to host the 2027 AFCON tournament.

The tournament’s 52 matches will be spread across the three countries.

Kenya has picked Uasin Gishu and Nairobi Counties to host the 2027 football showpiece with Western and Nyanza governors asking the government to reconsider its choice of venues.
