William Kabogo: The next president might not be Raila or Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has sensationally claimed that neither ODM leader Raila Odinga nor Deputy President William Ruto might be the next president as many Kenyans seem to anticipate.

This comes at a time when it is projected that the 2022 presidential election will be a two-horse race between Raila Odinga and William Ruto.

But in an exclusive interview with the Star Newspaper, the Tujibebe Wakenya party leader told Kenyans to expect a surprise in the 2022 presidential elections just as it was during the 2002 General Election.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has sensationally claimed that neither ODM leader Raila Odinga nor Deputy President William Ruto might be the next president.

“I predict we may have a surprise. I am not a witch or prophet but I suspect a surprise. Just as in 2002 when everyone thought the race was between Odinga and Kenyatta a new dispensation was birthed on October 14,” Kabogo said.

Kabogo who vied for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in 2017 as an independent candidate but lost to Ferdinand Waititu likened 2022 presidential to that of 2022 where it was expected that the race would be between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga but Kibaki emerged from nowhere and won.

“A tsunami happened and Kibaki Tosha happened. Kibaki was overwhelmingly elected President. Something might happen that will take the presidency elsewhere,” he added.

Kabogo who said it is still early to make his 2022 political aspirations known further dismissed claims that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party heavily associated with William Ruto has entrenched its roots in the vote-rich Kenya region ahead of next year’s General Election.

He said President Uhuru’s turf will elect leaders not based on their political affiliations but their ability to better the lives of Mt Kenya people.

“There is nothing like a UDA wave in Mt. Kenya. The people of the region are going to elect leaders based on their capacity to improve their livelihoods,” Kabogo said.
