In June, Treasury Chief Administrative Secretary Nelson Gaichuihe mysteriously lost KSh 4 million cash money from his house in Nairobi.

It was later suspected that the cash was stolen by her house-help Mwelu Muinde, 45, who then went into hiding.

This saw police officers launch a manhunt for the suspect.

On Tuesday, July 19, sleuths from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) nabbed the suspect from her hide-out in Kiambu County.

Accompanied by her partner Timothy Akoi, the suspect was found at a renowned witch doctor’s house in Gachie, Kiambu county, where she had gone to seek protection from hawk-eyed detectives.

“On Tuesday, July 19, detectives based at the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) supported by their Special Services Unit (SSU) counterparts, pounced on a suspect who took off with KSh 4 million, from her employer three weeks ago,” DCI said in a statement.

Later, the suspect led the detectives to her parents’ home in Ithanga, Murang’a county, where KSh1.57million was recovered.

Also recovered was the jewelry stolen from the woman’s employer.

DCI is cautioning criminals who have committed crimes not to waste time seeking the services of wizards, to protect them from our officers.

“Detectives rely on actionable intelligence supported forensically through science that cannot be challenged by the dark powers of a witch doctor.”

A police report filed at Hardy police station in Nairobi last month and seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, showed that the house help  made3 away with KSh 4 million and jewelry worth KSh 500k.

“Upon return from work at around 1500hrs she found the house girl missing and upon checking in the house, she realized that her jewelry worth KSh 500,000 and cash KSh 4 million which had been placed on top of their wardrobe by her husband missing as well,” a police report read in part.
