2022 Presidential hopefuls fight for Martha Karua’s attention

by Enock Ndayala
Political analyst Manyora has hit hard at NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua saying she has no political value ahead of the August 9 elections.

A section of the 2022 presidential hopefuls is yearning to work with Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua amid the fast-approaching General Election.

It is believed that some of those aspiring to work with Karua are ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

Although Raila has not made it clear whether he will run for the presidency or not, insiders say the former Prime Minister will be on the ballot for the seat.

Karua’s corruption-free record and pro-reform reputation makes her stand out from the crowds besides the fact she is a woman and could make a good running mate for anyone who might also want to add Mt Kenya votes to their basket in 2022.

On Monday, June 28, an ODM MP, who requested his name to be withheld, said Odinga’s advisers want Karua to join them despite her strong views against the entire BBI process.

“The biggest objection is Karua’s position on the BBI. This has made Raila Odinga’s advisers hesitant. They believe she could add value to their camp considering he has no corruption record,” the MP said as quoted by the Daily Nation newspaper.

Similarly, it is speculated that the strategists of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party that Ruto intends to use to run for the presidency in the next General Election have been keen on Karua after she vehemently opposed the constitutional amendment through the BBI process.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi recently claimed that Karua is the only politician who can stop William Ruto’s dominance in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

“Maybe, there is only one ‘man’ in GEMA who can fix William Ruto… that man is Martha Karua. If Martha Karua runs as Raila Odinga’s deputy, Ruto will p*** in his pants,” Ngunyi said.

Political analysts say Karua, who recently challenged President Uhuru and Ruto to resign if they failed to resolve their political differences, is a veteran politician with a high level of experience in Mount Kenya.

According to Javis Bigambo, although Karua has attracted several 2022 presidential hopefuls, the one who will lure her must also ensure he has Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth to ensure he has central support.
