Kieni MP shows his parents humble kitchen where he used to sleep

by Enock Ndayala

Kieni MP James Mathenge alias Kanini Kega has inspired social media users after he posted a picture of a wooden structure his parents used as a kitchen when he was young.

The Jubilee legislator said he also used the structure, which was made of timber walls and corrugated iron sheets, as his bedroom at night during his teenage life.

Kega, who is seeking his third re-election as Kieni MP in this year’s General Election, said he was thankful that God had brought him this far.

“In my teenage life, this served as our kitchen and my bedroom! Mungu amenitoa mbali (God has brought me this far),” Kieni MP said in a Tweet on Friday, May 27.

While the majority of the users doubted Kega’s humble beginning, one of the users who claimed to have known the legislator confirmed that indeed the legislator had a humble background.

“I attended your wedding in Tetu sometimes back as a young man, I never knew you would raise this high,” Mzalendi Tetu said.

A user identified as Kibicho scolded Kanini Kega for not renovating his mother’s kitchen despite serving as area MP for a whopping 10 years.

“Najua kwenu na hii ilikuwa kitchen. Show the complex you did after receiving kickbacks to have mercury sugar released,” he said.

A user by name Joshua Obonyo came to Kanini Kega’s defense and argued that the vocal legislator was not in a hurry to demolish the structure so that it could remain as a historic site to remind them of their humble background.

“He (Kanini Kega) can reconstruct the house but the details remain the same while the material will be reused. The aim is to make sure it remains historic for a long to prevent degradation. Everything including location and look will be original.”
