Deputy President William Ruto blasted Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata for making a small contribution at a fundraiser.

During a fundraiser in Murang’a County on Wednesday, November 3, Irungu Kang’ata offered KSh 40,000 as his contribution.

However, the Deputy President blasted Murang’a Senator saying his contribution was small for a person who wants to vie for the gubernatorial post.

Ruto, who was launching a Ksh 100 million kitty to support disadvantaged learners in the region challenged him to raise more funds.

“Do you want to be governor? No, 40,000 is not enough, which governor gives 40,000? Look for more money, if you don’t have I can loan you then you repay later,” Ruto said.

After being challenged, the Murang’a Senator went back to his tent, and after a short time, he came back with Ksh 100,000.

William Ruto accepted the KSh 100, 000 contributions and praised Kang’ata for his effort.

The Murang’a Senator is set to battle for the gubernatorial seat in a tight race with other politicians like Jamleck Kamau, Woman Rep Sabina Chege, and devolution PS Irungu Nyakera.

However, a survey by Mizani Africa released on September 24 showed that Irungu Kang’ata could lose the gubernatorial bid to Jameck.

The survey released by Mizani Africa showed that the contestants would rank as follows if the elections were conducted in September 2020.

  1. Jamleck Kamau.
  2. Irungu Kang’ata
  3. Sabina Chege
  4. Moses Mwangi
  5. Irungu Wairagu
  6. Irungu Nyakera
  7. Stanely Kamau
  8. Joshua Toro
  9. Henry Gate

Additionally, there has been fury in UDA over the perception that Kang’ata is William Ruto’s preferred candidate for the post, hence he might favour him in the nominations.

Reacting to these claims, Ruto assured that the UDA nominations will be free and fair.
