Rebel Ford-K MP named party leader of DAP party

by Enock Ndayala

Ford Kenya rebel Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi has been named the Democratic Action Party of Kenya’s (DAP-K) Party Leader ahead of the 2022 elections.

His Tongeren counterpart and former Ford Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu was named as DAP-K Secretary-General, a party heavily associated with CS Eugine Wamalwa.

This was after the delegate’s conference ratified resolutions announced at the convention.

Ford Kenya rebel MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has been named the Democratic Action Party of Kenya’s (DAP-K) Party Leader ahead of the 2022 elections.

The duo had unsuccessfully attempted a coup within FORD-Kenya before bolting out with several branch officials to form a new party.

Speaking shortly after the launch on Tuesday, December 14, the Kanduyi MP said they decided to move on after their quest to ‘reform’ Ford-Kenya was thwarted by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula and his team.

Wamunyinyi said the newly launched party will field candidates in all elective seats except that of the presidency as the outfit will throw its weight behind the ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

“DAP-K will field candidates in all positions except that of the presidency. Nominations in the party will be free and fair and no one will have to grease the hands of anyone to get a nomination certificate,” Wamunyinyi said.

DAP-K party inaugural Chairperson David Muchelule urged all aspirants seeking elective seats in the Western region and across the country to join the new outfit stating that the party has complied with current regulations by the Registrar of Political Parties.

“We have complied with current regulations by the Registrar of Political Parties and IEBC. We are ready for an election, let’s join hands and steer this vehicle forward,” Muchelule said.

Key leaders who graced the DAP-K event were Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, his Agriculture counterpart Peter Munya, Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamoong, and former minister Noah Wekesa.

Defense CS Eugine Wamalwa tasked Noah Wekesa to coordinate in making coalition deals with other like-minded parties including the ODM party.

The formation of the DAP-K party is seen as an attempt to wrestle the western region’s leadership from ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula who are considered de facto regional kingpins.
