A section of elected leaders from the Ukambani region has threatened to leave Kalonzo Musyoka if he shelves his presidential bid to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In a joint statement read by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua on Wednesday, September 8, the top luminaries in the Wiper Democratic Party said should their party leader go against their wish, then he will have to walk the journey alone.

“Should our party leader ever make the decision to support Raila Odinga for the presidency, we respectfully assure him (Kalonzo Musyoka) of two very painful outcomes,

“One, he will walk that journey alone, and two, the Kamba nation and the millions for his supporters across the country will never forgive him,” the leaders said.

This comes amid speculations the Wiper leader, one of the principals in the recently formed One Kenya Alliance (OKA) was ready to enter into a pact with the former Prime Minister where he would shelve his State House bid to deputise Raila for a record third time.

The speculations emerged barely a day after ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi gave a strong indication that he would pick his running mate from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, a move that could split the OKA given that other co-principals could play the role of a kingmaker which is against their wish.

Three out of four OKA principals bringing together Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi (KANU) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) have expressed their ambitions to run for the top seat with Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula opting to retain his county seat.

In June, the former Vice president dismissed reports that he will support Raila Odinga for the presidency in the 2022 General Election especially after their two attempts failed to yield results.

“I am not a weakling… Raila and I have never sat to discuss 2022. I will be the most stupid person on earth to support Raila Odinga for president for the third time without a measure of reciprocity,” Kalonzo Musyoka said.
