Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip is on the spot for assaulting his political opponent after Deputy President William Ruto’s visit to the coastal region.

Anwar is said to have kicked and harassed Francis Mugo at Manda airport on Tuesday, October 19 just after William Ruto took off in a plane.

At the location, the Lamu Senator is said to have broken the youthful politician’s eyeglasses, snatched his mobile phone, and attempted to throw him in the Indian ocean.

The altercation left Mugo injured on his right hand, left eye and hip.

“I am disappointed at Senator Loitiptip’s behavior. He attacked me immediately after DP Ruto boarded his flight and  left Manda Airport.

He forcefully took my phone.. broke my eye glassesand injured me in the right hand and left eye,” Mugo recalled.

He further claimed that the Lamu Senator tried to throw him into the ocean at the jetty but did not succeed.

The youthful politician had declared interest in the Lamu Senatorial seat under William Ruto’s party, and this would be a threat to Awar Loitiptip who aims at retaining his position.

However, the Lamu Senator denied the allegations, saying that Mugo is seeking sympathy and faulting him for gate crushing his event.

The saga comes after a declaration by DP William Ruto that UDA nomination tickets will not be issued to violent politicians.

“Any candidate that uses violence in UDA will be disqualified; violence must never be part of the equation in UDA,” Ruto said during his tour of the coast.

At the coast, William Ruto had to quell the tension over UDA nominations, promising that it will be a fair process.

“Nominations will be free, fair and democratic. Nobody will be given a free ride. There will be no direct nomination unless we have only one candidate. I guarantee you that,” the DP told supporters.
