Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi and ex-governor Peter Munya have had an exchange of words as the two aim at contesting for the County’s top seat in 2022.

Being the first governor of Meru County, Peter Munya who is the current Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture has accused his successor Kiraitu Murungi of performing poorly.

In a response on his social media, the Meru Governor has said his opponent has not been in the County to see the developments that have occurred ever since he left office.

“I want to challenge Munya to leave his Nairobi office and visit Meru more often to see for himself the transformation that has happened since we kicked him out of office in 2017,” Kiraitu Murungi said.

While poking holes in his performance in the ministry of Agriculture, Kiraitu said Meru’s ex-governor is a failure.

“When I was Minister, my ministry of Energy was ranked the second-best ministry overall. In contrast, Munya’s Agriculture ministry was recently ranked the worst performing ministry among all ministries,” Kiraitu Murungi said.

The Meru Governor further dismissed the ex-governor for being a failure in choosing a  political party and lacking leadership skills.

“The last party which Munya won an elective position, was the Mbus party which I had formed. He failed to win with PNU during the last elections despite being the sitting governor,” he added.

The show of might between Kiraitu Murungi and ex-governor Peter Munya comes at a time when Munya has intensified his campaigns to take back the county’s leadership position.

On his part, Kiraitu Murungi aims at defending his seat, but not through the Jubilee Party.

After declaring the death of Jubilee, Kiraitu started plans to revive the ‘Bus party’.

The Bus Party was among those folded to form the Jubilee Party in the 2017 General Election.
