Senator Malala on how Raila unsuccessfully begged Mudavadi to attend Kasarani event

by Enock Ndayala

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala claimed ODM leader Raila Odinga unsuccessfully begged ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to attend his Azimio la Umoja event at the Kasarani Stadium.

Speaking on Saturday, December 18, during the burial of Mudavadi’s stepmother Mama Rosebela in Vihiga County, the legislator claim he and the former vice president were in a hotel enjoying themselves, and every time Musalia could look at his phone, there was a missed call from Raila.

Tulikuwa tumeketi na Musalia (Mudavadi) kule kwa hoteli tukijivinjari lakini kila wakati wanapiga simu (I was with Musalia at a city hotel enjoying ourselves but every time Mudavadi looked at his phone, there was a missed call from Raila,” Malala said.

Just a day before the Friday, December 10, event at the Kasarani Musalia Mudavadi turned down Raila’s invite to the Azimio la Umoja saying he would be attending to his personal engagements.

“I have just received an official invitation to Azimio la Umoja Convention. As noted herein, the invitation was addressed in my personal capacity as ANC Party Leader and not OKA Principal. Regrettably, I will not be able to attend because of personal engagements,” Mudavadi said in a Tweet.

Malala further lauded Mudavadi for neither attending the event nor picking Raila’s calls saying his bold stand had attracted other leaders to beseech him to work with them in the 2022 elections.

While exuding confidence that Mudavadi will beat perceived presidential front runners William Ruto and Raila Odinga, Malala who is eying the Kakamega gubernatorial seat said the One Kenya Alliance principal will only form coalitions after the 2022 elections.

“We don’t want them now. We will talk to them when we get to State House next year,” Malala told Mudavadi.

This comes barely a month after Malala told the opposition chief to stop calling Mudavadi at night.

“We have come here to tell ODM, stop calling us at night, we do not want your phone calls. We have already settled for Musalia, and he will not support Raila Amollo Odinga again,” Malala said at a rally in Kakamega on Sunday, November 21.
