William Ruto allies explain how governors are forced to support Raila Odinga

Allies of Deputy President William Ruto claim that governors are threatened to support Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential ambition.

Speaking during William Ruto’s tour of Kitui County on Friday, November 12, the Ukambani leaders claimed that the governors are threatened to support Raila Odinga, failure to which they will be charged with corruption.

In a press statement by Deputy President Press Service (DPPS) the leaders argued that the governors are secretly in support of William Ruto, but can not come out publicly for fear of victimisation.

Kitui East MP MP Nimrod Mbai also said that state agencies are using governors to popularise Raila Odinga’s candidacy against their wishes.

“Governors are supporting Raila Odinga because they have been told if they support (William) Ruto they will be prosecuted,” he said.

His Machakos Township Counterpart Victor Munyaka argued that the political trick is increasing cases of corruption in counties because the governors have immunity.

“They are following Raila to secure state protection for the crimes they have committed while in office. He (Raila) can only protect you for the next 9 months,” Munyaka said.

William Ruto supporters also criticised Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, who dismissed William Ruto during Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja’ (quest for unity) Rally in the same county.

They urged Charity Ngilu to focus her energy on serving residents instead of fighting William Ruto.

In the Azimio la Umoja rally held in Kitui County on Friday, November 12, Ngilu said she does not give attention to Ruto.

“I’m shocked when I see this guy (William Ruto). I always switch off. When he appears on Citizen TV, I wonder what is this…I switch off until he is done,

“Ruto promised our children laptops, now he wants to offer them wheelbarrows. Doesn’t he know the difference between a laptop and a wheelbarrow?” governor Charity Ngilu posed.
