‘Rudisheni mkono’ Raila asks Nyeri to give him presidency because he sacrificed for late Kibaki

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua on Tuesday, July 5, took his presidential campaigns to Nyeri County.

While drumming up support for his presidential ambition, the former Prime Minister recalled how he propelled late President Mwai Kibaki to power.

In the run-up to the 2002 General Election, Kenya’s third president Mwai Kibaki had been involved in a serious road accident and could not campaign for his presidency.

This forced Raila Odinga to chip in and lead the presidential campaigns until he (Kibaki) won.

It is for this reason that Raila Odinga yesterday pleaded with Mt Kenya residents to support his State House bid the same way he backed their son Mwai Kibaki.

“When he was down, I am the one who campaigned in all parts of the country for him until we won the elections isn’t?

“Pia mimi nataka mrudishe mkono kwa niaba ya Kibaki… Mtarudisha mkono (I also want you to hold my hand, will you return the favour? Raila posed as the crowd applauded.

Raila’s 2022 presidential running mate Martha Karua further implored the vote-rich Mt Kenya to vote for the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party flag bearer as the only way of repaying political debt.

“Raila has reminded you that he said Kibaki Tosha, you were happy that time, aren’t you? He is now here asking for your votes this year… Didn’t also stand with our president?” Karua posed.

“This is your time to give Baba na Martha your votes so that we can stand with our country,” she added.

Raila will be giving his fifth and last presidential attempt and will be facing off with Deputy President William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
