Kitui governor Charity Ngilu has said she is ready to be ODM leader Raila Odinga’s running mate.

Ngilu, a fierce critic of William Ruto said having a woman as number two would not only bring equality but would also bring some kind of fairness.

“That will bring equality and some kind of fairness even though I’m privy to many things at play behind the scenes,” Ngilu said.

The former presidential candidate exuded confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred successor will beat Deputy President William Ruto hands down.

“Raila Odinga is the country’s next President. I will be in this studio on August 10, God willing. Let’s compare notes, then,” she added.

The ruling Jubilee party is expected to officially ink a pre-election deal with Raila’s ODM party, a formation that will see the two outfits field a single presidential candidate to give William Ruto a run for his money.

According to Jubilee deputy secretary-general Joshua Kutuny, the formation will see ODM produce a presidential candidate whereas President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party will be given the running mate slot.

“The president underscored the need for the full support for the Azimio coalition. He mentioned something like Jubilee will have a big say in producing Raila’s running mate. Those are part of negotiations going on, but it is too early,” Kutuny said.

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth are among the favorites being considered for the running mate slot.
