Makueni governor: Ruto will win presidency if Raila endorses Kalonzo

by Enock Ndayala

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has warned ODM leader Raila Odinga against ceding to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s demands.

In a press conference on Tuesday, March 1, the Wiper leader revealed that he signed an agreement with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga where it was agreed that the ODM leader was bound to support Kalonzo’s presidential quest in the 2022 polls following a deal they had in 2017.

“By this agreement, the parties agree that principal H (Raila Odinga) will be NASA’s presidential nominee and that principal Q (Kalonzo Musyoka) will be his running mate,” Kalonzo said.

But in an interview with NTV on Wednesday, March 2, the outgoing Makueni governor said Deputy President William Ruto would easily beat Kalonzo Musyoka hands down should he vie on Azimio la Umoja ticket.

“Even if Raila ceded to Kalonzo (Musyoka), Azimio would be defeated,” Kibwana said.

He said that the former vice-president is not a serious competitor in the statehouse race if the recent several opinion polls placing Kalonzo at 6 percent and 1 percent are anything to go by.

“Up to now, if Kalonzo polls are 6 percent and 1 percent and so on, how will he compete in real terms?” Kibwana posed.

Kibwana a fierce critic of the OKA principal Kalonzo Musyoka asked Kalonzo to first gauge his weight before he demands Raila’s support in the August 9, General Election even as the duo negotiate towards working together.

“I think one has to ask himself what is his weight is and accept that some people are heavier than others and that numbers count. If Kalonzo comes to Azimio, I will not be able to say no. That would be a positive thing. But what is not good is for people to threaten others that they are strong than others,” he said.
