Lawyer Makua Mutua challenges Ruto to kick out hate mongers from UDA

by Enock Ndayala

The Kenya Human Rights Commission chairperson Makau Mutua has challenged Deputy President William Ruto to kick out hate mongers from his camp ahead of the upcoming General Election.

This comes just a day after the deputy president apologised and warned his foot soldiers against uttering remarks that may cause ethnic divisions in the country as the 2022 General Election nears.

But taking to his social media pages, the United States-based Kenyan lawyer dared the deputy president to drop hate mongers if he truly wants to help in bringing to an end incitement remarks from his troops.

According to Mutua, apologising alone and warning his troops not to engage in inflammatory remarks will not solve the ever skyrocketing incitement remarks from his foot soldiers.

“Senator Mithika_Linturi calls for ethnic cleansing. He “apologizes.” Then DP William Ruto “apologizes” to “Kenyans” for Linturi’s vile comments. Was Linturi a dupe?  Is Ruto sincere?  If so, he must kick Linturi out of UDA. And the law must make an example of him,” Mutua said in a Tweet.

During William Ruto’s visit to the vote-rich Rift Valey region last week, Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, a close ally of the deputy president described those opposed to William Ruto’s presidential bid as ‘Madoadoa’ who he said must be ejected.

The presidential hopeful who was speaking in Bomet on Monday, January 10,  while apologizing on behalf of Senator Linturi’s ‘Madoadoa’ remarks further urged security agencies including the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) not to deal with hate speech purveyors selectively.

“As we approach the August 9, General Election, I want to tell members of my team that all of us must mind our language, all of must be careful about what we say so that we can unite this country because that is what the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) believes in,” William Ruto said.
