Locals scramble for bread and soda at the Natembeya homecoming event

by Amos Khaemba

Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya held his homecoming party that was attended by thousands of people who at one point scrambled for a share of bread and soda that had been provided.

In a video doing rounds on social media and seen by Kivumbiu.co.ke, hundreds of locals are seen scrambling for the little available loaf of bread and soda.

From the commotion in the video, it seems the organizers of the ceremony underestimated the attendance and provided less food compared to the thousands who attended.

So full was the Kenyatta Stadium where the event was held that even political leaders had problems making way through the massive crowd as Natembeya arrived to launch his Trans Nzoia gubernatorial bid.

Azimio la Umoja-leaning leaders graced the occasion where they called on local residents to vote for ODM leader Raila Odinga in the upcoming August 9 presidential election.

National and local politics took center stage as political leaders present used the occasion to popularise their parties.

Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and his Agriculture counterpart Peter Munya led the leaders in championing a Raila presidency.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) brigade led by deputy party leader Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed attended the event where they hit out at Deputy President William Ruto for using abusive language in his campaign.

On the local political front, Western leaders castigated ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula for teaming up with DP Ruto terming it a betrayal to the Luhya community.

“Musalia Mudavadi is surrounded by political brokers who have carried him to Sigoi,” CS Eugene Wamalwa said.

Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) of Kenya chairman Wafula Wamunyinyi, who is also Kanduyi MP, called on Trans Nzoia residents to vote out all Ford Kenya leaders in the county, saying the party has nothing good to offer the Luhya people.
