MP David Sonko’s son shots self-dead using father’s gun

The family of nominated MP David Ole Sankok is in mourning after his son shot himself dead.

According to police reports, the unnamed teenager committed the atrocity on Wednesday, May 2, at his father’s home in Narok County.

A senior police officer who requested his identity withheld said Sanko’s son who took his own life is a form four student at Maseno High School.

It is further reported that Sankok’s son shot himself dead at a time his father was not at home.

“The father was not home when the boy shot himself and it’s not clear how he accessed the firearm that should have been properly secured,” said a senior officer aware of the incident.

Officers from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since retrieved his body from the scene as investigations have commenced.

Investigations have been launched to ascertain the motive behind the gory incident.

It is suspected that Sankok, a close ally of Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto has been having differences with his son over his academic performance.

Cases of people close to politicians taking their own life ahead of the much-awaited August 9, General Election has been rife.

Three weeks ago, a senior police officer attached to DP William Ruto‘s official security detail allegedly shot himself dead at his home.

According to a report filed at the Hays police post in Juja, Constable Samuel Ngatia who was attached to the elite presidential escort took his own life on Monday, April 11.

“He used his pistol and shot himself in the head with preliminary findings showing that the bullet entered on the right side and exited on the left side,” a police report said.
