After his interventions, the members of the county assembly ended their long-term feud with Governor Kawira Mwangaza who was elected on an independent ticket.

Five months later, all MCAs elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party withdrew their support to the county boss.

In what appears that Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s woes have deepened, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has withdrawn from uniting the Meru Governor and the MCAs.

Speaking on Sunday, October 1, during a church service at the Methodist church of Kenya in Kaelo, Meru County, the second in command said he will not try to intervene in the ongoing political wrangles in the county for a second time.

Gachagua said after listening to both parties, he realized that the wrangles within Meru County were local and urged the leaders to talk and resolve the matter.

“We have talked with the governor, her deputy, and other leaders. We have agreed that the problems in Meru will be resolved by Meru leaders,” Gachagua said.

He further asked the church leaders to mediate between the Meru County Assembly and the Executive adding that they were the same people who also asked him to withdraw from bringing a truce.

“The church and leaders have asked President William Ruto and myself to keep off. Therefore, I am requesting the governor, deputy governor, senator, CS Linturi, and the church to sit and decide what is good for Meru,” he stated.

Governor Mwangaza and the area MCAS have been in dispute over the leadership of the county with the MCAs hinting at a second impeachment motion to kick Mwangaza out of office.

Mwangaza has, however, dared the MCAs to bring on the impeachment motion saying it will fail.
