Where is William Ruto? Deputy President just vanished

by Enock Ndayala

Questions have emerged over the absence of Deputy President William Ruto from the campaign trail.

Known for being on the campaign trail at least since 2018, the former Eldoret North MP’s absence from three big rallies by his new-found political partners has raised wide speculation

Prior to the sudden silence, safe for occasional posts on social media, the deputy president has been holding close to 10 political rallies a day to popularise his bottom-up economic model ahead of his titanic battle with Raila ODM leader Raila Odinga.

If not on the campaign trail, the presidential hopeful would also be meeting delegates of women groups or regional leaders from various parts of the country at his Karen residence.

A few times, he would be seen receiving defectors or aspirants seeking political seats on his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the upcoming election.

However, this has not been the case in the past 3 days as he has since gone missing from the campaigns which are being spearheaded by the proposed Kenya Kwanza coalition co-principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula.

As speculation on Ruto’s whereabouts grows, there has been no communication from his office as it should be, considering he is a public officer.

The last time William Ruto held a political rally was on Sunday, January 30, during an event at Thirime Primary School grounds in Kikuyu, where he commissioned an administration block and classrooms funded by NG-CDF Kikuyu.

Online and social media detectives have suggested the former Eldoret North MP flew to Dubai alongside Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala but again this remains just that, speculation.

Without mentioning the location he was, Malala posted a photo of himself alongside South Sudan president Salvar Kiir.

It is important to note that even Malala has not been part of the Kenya Kwanza rallies like he always is.

A quick check on William Ruto’s social media pages however shows that he was keenly following activities by posting photos from the campaign by his political partners.

“Continued our Uchumi Kwanza agenda in Westlands constituency – Nairobi County, City Park, Githogoro, Mwimuto, Uthiru, and Kangemi markets,” Ruto captioned photos taken on Tuesday, February 1.

“Let us remain united and work together as a country. That was the message to Naivasha town, Karagita and Kamere residents in Nakuru County,” the DP said on Wednesday after posting images from which he was conspicuously missing.
