Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga on Tuesday, January 17, nominated opposition leader Raila Odinga’s sister to County Revenue Board.

Among those nominated include Raila’s younger sister Wenwa Akinyi Oranga.

Akinyi is the daughter of the late Jaramogi’s first wife Mary Ajuma who’s also Raila’s mother. She is the third born in her immediate family after her brothers Oburu Oginga and the former prime minister.

“I submitted a list of new Public Service and Revenue Board members to the Homa Bay County Assembly for vetting,” Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said in a statement.

While calling on the county assembly to fast-track the vetting process, the ODM governor said the nominations resulted from a transparent and competitive recruitment process which was conducted by the County Public Service Board.

Until her nomination, Wenwa who was the first Kenyan woman to obtain a doctorate degree in chemistry was a board member of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).

She is also a Trustee, of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, and Pan Africa Petroleum Limited.

Akinyi has also worked as a senior assistant secretary for the Commission for University Education and a chief chemist at the Pyrethrum Board of Kenya.

She has served as a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi for over 13 years.

It is understood that this is not the first close relative of opposition leader Raila Odinga to serve in both county and national governments after he lost his fifth stab at the presidency to William Ruto.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga is the current Siaya senator while Raila’s sister Ruth Odinga was elected Siaya Woman Representative.

Further, Raila’s last-born daughter Winnie Odinga was nominated to the East Africa Legislative Assembly based in Arusha Tanzania.
