A section of Kenyan leaders secretly flew to Qatar to watch the 2022 World Cup finals between France and Argentina.

Among those who went to Qatar include Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale.

Unconfirmed reports further claim that Kenya’s President William Ruto was also in Qatar to watch the World Cup finals.

However, Kivumbi.co.ke has established that Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale watched the 2022 World Cup finals on TV after he failed to secure a place at Al Bayt Stadium.

The vocal politician who was in the company of some whites took to social media to watch the finals in a restaurant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) after missing securing a seat at the stadium.

In a statement, on Sunday, December 18, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator said he was not lucky to enter the stadium but watched the finals in the neighborhood with friends.

“I may not have been lucky to enter the Stadium for the World Cup finals but I was there in the neighborhood with my friends,” Khalwale said in a Tweet.

It was not immediately established why he missed securing a seat at the Al Bayt Stadium.

While a section of Kenyans took to the comment section to chide Khalwale for being broke to raise the cash required, others defended the senator saying he might have landed in Qatar when the stadium was booked to capacity.

“Time wasting, you should have stayed at home,” one of the social media users said.

During the finals, Argentina defeated France in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a draw.

The match ended 2-2 in the normal time and 3-3 in the extra time but was decided on penalties where Argentina converted four penalties against France’s two.
