List of politicians who have joined William Ruto’s camp as political transfer season starts

by Nderi Caren

A number of politicians in Kenya have flocked Deputy President William Ruto’s camp as the political transfer season starts.

Many of those making political transfers are looking for a new home to defend their seats in the 2022 General Election.

For those whose terms are coming to an end in 2022, the political transfers are meant to assure them of a position in William Ruto’s government.

Here is a list of politicians who have recently joined Ruto’s camp or have given hints of doing so.

  1. Anne Waiguru

After declaring the death of Jubilee Party, the Kirinyaga County boss is eyeing a new home in Ruto’s camp.

Last week, Waiguru asked her electorates which outfit they would like her to join and they recommended Ruto’s UDA.

“Didn’t you hear me say I will do what the people of Kirinyaga will have said… I am asking you, my brothers and sisters, because I have heard you say you will vote me back, what party do you want me to come with?” Waiguru posed as the crowd replied UDA.

2. Gathoni Wa Muchomba

Once a staunch supporter of president Uhuru Kenyatta, ‘the Kiambu Woman Representative joined Ruto’s camp on June 23.

While making the move, she said that her electorates had urged her to do so.

“Upon consultation with the Kiambu electorate and myself, I have made this decision to ditch the party that took me to Parliament and ride on what my people want,” she said.

3. Cate Waruguru

The Laikipia Woman Representative has aligned herself with Ruto, but changed tune (to join President Uhuru) in support of the Building Bridges Initiative.

Years later, Waruguru re-defected to Ruto’s camp after ‘consulting her people on the ground.’

I am a smart woman with both my ears on the ground to listen to the people. I have gone to more than 40 meetings and the people are saying William Ruto Tosha 2022,” she said.

 4. Majimbo Kalasinga

Barely six months after he was elected as Kabuchail MP on a Ford-Kenya ticket, Majimbo Kalasinga ditched his party leader for DP William Ruto.

While announcing his endorsement for Ruto, Majimbo hailed the DP for supporting his parliamentary bid.

“Our beloved DP Ruto let me tell you that you and Bungoma are one thing and we are ready to work with you in your quest to empower the hustlers of this country,” he said.

5. Okoth Obado

After a fallout with the ODM Party, Migori Governor Okoth Obado formed his outfit, People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Governor then declared his support for William Ruto, preparing to form a partnership with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
