Martha Karua, Agnes Kagure emerge most preferred running mates from Mt Kenya

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua and businesswoman Agnes Kagure have emerged as the most preferred deputy Presidential candidates from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

In a poll conducted by Mizani Africa, Martha Karua led as the most preferred woman to be the deputy president from central Kenya with 34.8 percent.

The research conducted on residents of Mt Kenya region found that businesswoman Agnes Kagure is the second most preferred deputy presidential candidate in 2022 General Election.

If the elections were to be held today, 31.9 percent of Mt Kenya residents would have voted for the presidential candidate who shall have Kagure as their running mate.

The ranking on female deputy presidential candidates showed that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is the least preferred.

14.9 percent of the Mt Kenya voters who took part in the research said they would vote for the presidential candidate with Anne Waiguru as the running mate.

The poll revealed that 56 percent of Raila Odinga’s supporters want Agnes Kagure to be his deputy while 65 percent of William Ruto’s supporters want Martha Karua to be his deputy.

Interestingly though, Martha Karua has previously said William Ruto is the least qualified of all presidential candidates and prefers Raila Odinga to the deputy president.

Karua has an eye on the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in 2022. She was recently appointed Mt Kenya spokesperson.

Agnes Kagure on the other hand is considered a close ally of Raila Odinga. She also has an eye on the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2022.

She is the patron of Kenya Universities Students Organisation hence considered an asset in terms of bringing onboard votes from the youth.

Mizani Africa also conducted research on male politicians from Mt Kenya region who fit to be running mates.

The findings showed that National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is the most preferred deputy president in the Mt Kenya region.

About 28.7% of the respondents said they would like Muturi to be the next deputy president of Kenya.

The speaker was followed closely by former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo at 21.7 percent.

Coming third was Agriculture CS Peter Munya at 17.6 percent.

An in-depth analysis further showed that 57 percent of Raila Odinga’s supporters in the region want him to pick Muturi as running mate while 45 percent of William Ruto’s supporters want Peter Munya to be his deputy.
