Anne Waiguru’s bitter rival hints at leaving William Ruto’s party

Anne Waiguru’s rival Purity Wangui Ngirici has hinted at leaving William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party ahead of their 2022 battle for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.

Barely a month after Waiguru joined UDA, Ngirici says she has taken a step back from active politics in the party, something many Kenyans have noticed.

Prior to Waiguru joining the Ruto camp, Wangui Ngirici was always by the Deputy President’s side and considered a stalwart in the part.

Notably, Ngirici was recently missing in William Ruto’s tours of the Mt Kenya region last week where Waiguru made her first appearance at UDA rallies.

Now, Anne Waiguru’s rival says she has taken a step back to think of her political future.

“Politics is akin to the game of chess; you must study it well as your next decision would determine whether you win or lose. I have now retreated to carefully study my options before I make my next political move,” Ngirici told the Standard newspaper.

Additionally, she expressed confidence that she can still beat Waiguru if she leaves the UDA party.

“I am, however, confident that my supporters will follow me, regardless of the pedestal (party) l I’d be standing on,” she added.

She fired at Waiguru, saying she waited for her to mobilise the ground to support Ruto’s UDA before she joined.

“It’s now her turn to pose for pictures with Ruto, something I had done for four years,

“For now, let me sit back and ponder on what’s good for me politically,” Ngirici added.

After Waiguru joined UDA, Nyeri Town MP Ngujiri Wambugu gave hints that Ngirici might join President Uhuru’s camp.

Waiguru says she is in UDA because Kirinyaga people are there. Assuming she is right, Kirinyaga people are there because someone did the heavy lifting and moved them from where Waiguru was, to where she is now following them to,

“So, If that person moves them again from where she has gone to find them; to somewhere else; will she still follow them?” Ngujiri posed.

On the other hand, Ngirici has intensified her attacks on Waiguru.

Recently, she termed Waiguru a thief who will not change even after joining William Ruto’s camp.
